[PASADENA, CA] — Arcadia, CA resident Ralph Bicker, Secretary/Treasurer of Pasadena Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors, headquartered in Pasadena, CA, was chosen as Volunteer of the Year by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU). Ralph and other winners in NAFCU’s 2011 Annual Awards Competition will be honored in conjunction with NAFCU’s 44th Annual Conference in San Francisco, June 28 - July 2.

“In 2010 Pasadena Federal Credit Union (PFCU) celebrated its 75th anniversary with the installation of a 90 sq ft mural called Building Pasadena.  The mural shows city workers, police and fire officers, scouts and others typical of our membership and images of local landmarks,” said Ron Berry, President and CEO of PFCU.  “If we were now to commission a mural called Building PFCU, Ralph Bicker’s image would have to be a prominent part of it. Ralph has served the board in various capacities for 51 years, demonstrating exemplary leadership skills.  This award is a testament to his outstanding dedication on behalf of our members.”

The Annual Awards Competition named the Volunteer of the Year in two credit union asset-size categories. Ralph was the winner among all federal credit unions with less than $150 million in assets, as PFCU currently has $136 million in assets.

Annual Awards Competition winners will be feted during the Awards Ceremony and Luncheon June 30 at NAFCU’s 44rd Annual Conference & Exhibition and profiled in an upcoming issue of The Federal Credit Union magazine.

Ralph Bicker joined PFCU’s Board of Directors in 1959.  He has contributed to his community by generously supporting a variety of service-based projects. Most notably, he served as an Assistant Area Director, and then as Area Director for the Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA), representing some 40,000 retired public employees.  He was appointed as Chairman of the Building Committee for PFCU when the Credit Union had to move its small staff of four people out of the one room, rent-free space it had occupied for many years on the 4th floor of Pasadena City Hall. Ralph chaired the committee that planned and oversaw the necessary remodeling and conversion of the shell of an existing building into the credit union’s first home outside of City Hall.  He also chaired the Building Committee when PFCU planned and constructed its present headquarters building and underground parking facility.

In addition to the Credit Union Board activities, Ralph has also served for many years on the Boards of two different large churches that he has been a member of and, the Board of the Arcadia Highland Oaks Homeowners Association where he lives.  He has also been Chairman of the Association’s Architectural Review Board for over 860 homes for the past 25 years.
