Peninsula Credit Union receives national “Juntos Avanzamos” designation for commitment to financial inclusion

Shelton, WA (September 10, 2025) |

Peninsula Credit Union has been awarded the national designation “Juntos Avanzamos” (“Together We Advance”), recognizing its commitment to serving and empowering Hispanic and  immigrant communities through inclusive, affordable financial services. It marks a significant  achievement this year as the company celebrates its 90th anniversary.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2025, Peninsula Credit Union will host a special event at its Shelton branch,  bringing together community partners, local leaders, and members to celebrate the designation, the  milestone anniversary, and will also ring in Hispanic Heritage Month. The event, “Unidos! Neighbors,  Now and Always,” will feature dancing horse performances by Rancho Durango and Rancho Chavez, live  music by Vozess Singers Show, local food trucks, family activities courtesy of the YMCA, and the official  proclamation and flag-raising ceremony.

“This year is incredibly special for us,” said Jim Morrell, President & CEO of Peninsula Credit Union. “We are honoring our 90-year history, celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with our partners and members,  and receiving the Juntos Avanzamos designation. Together, these milestones affirm our long-standing  commitment to listening, serving, educating, and caring for our members…always.”

The Juntos Avanzamos dedication is part of Peninsula Credit Union’s goal to help more members of our  local communities. Peninsula has been intentionally dedicating time to focusing its products, services,  people, and marketing to be more inclusive and culturally relevant, in efforts to become a steady and  dependable banking solution for more people.

“Earning the Juntos Avanzamos designation required significant dedication and hard work, and this  honor reflects both the mission of our credit union and my personal commitment to creating  opportunities for all,” said Darla Kolbas, Lending Director and part of Peninsula Credit Union’s Hispanic  Initiatives Team. “As a Latina with Mexican heritage, it is especially meaningful to represent my culture  while helping strengthen and empower the communities we serve.”
