Say Cheese: Pictures with Santa mark the holidays at Northwest Federal Credit Union
HERDON, VA (December 20, 2013) — This month, more than 250 Northwest Federal Credit Union member families skipped the long lines at the mall in favor of visiting Santa at their own neighborhood credit union branch.
Northwest Federal hosted “Santa Saturdays” at four of its branch locations where members received free 5×7 pictures with Santa, kids made holiday crafts, and everyone enjoyed treats and refreshments. Families could also donate unwrapped gifts to the NWFCU Foundation’s annual toy drive.
“It’s wonderful to see our members gather every year to enjoy this free, special event,” said Linda Rogus, Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation. “So many who come bring a toy to donate to our drive, and the donations we collect really help to give local children a merrier Christmas.”
This is the sixth year for Northwest Federal’s Santa event and Toy Drive, where more than 100 toys and $300 in cash donations were made to benefit charities near each of the branch locations. The entire Toy Drive effort, which collected toys at all of the Credit Union’s branches over the past month, brought in more than 1,000 toy donations.
According to Karyle Thornton, Vice President of Marketing, Santa Saturdays have become a much-anticipated tradition at the Credit Union.
“It’s a great way of celebrating the holidays with our members, she said.” With this special Santa event, they can avoid the crowds at the mall and instead take the time to sit down and relax,” she said. “Our members can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and a snack, while the kids can visit with Santa and take part in a fun holiday craft.”
