President nominates Todd Harper to seat on NCUA board

WASHINGTON, DC (February 4, 2019) — President Donald Trump nominated Todd Harper to serve as an NCUA board member today. Until 2017, Harper served as the Director of Public and Congressional Affairs and as the Chief Policy Advisor to the Chairman at the NCUA. Prior to serving at the NCUA, Harper served 14 years on Capitol Hill as a senior aide to Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski (D-PA).

“The CUNA/league system heartily congratulates Todd Harper on his nomination to the NCUA board, and credit unions look forward to working with a full, three-person NCUA board should this nomination go through,” said Jim Nussle, CUNA President/CEO. “He is a familiar face to not-for-profit financial cooperatives, which is a very positive development. CUNA looks forward to engaging further when possible to help NCUA continue its work providing examination and other regulatory relief to credit unions.”

Harper’s nomination would fill the third seat on the NCUA board, left vacant since former Chair Debbie Matz retired in April 2016. His term would expire April 10, 2021.

Trump nominated Rodney Hood, who previously served on the board under President George W. Bush, to fill the seat currently occupied by board member Rick Metsger, whose term expired in August 2017. Hood was also nominated in the last Congress, but did not receive a confirmation hearing.

The five-year term of board chair J. Mark McWatters is scheduled to expire in August 2019.
