Raiz Federal Credit Union congratulates the 2026 Education Service Center Region 19 (ESC19) Teachers of the Year, Rachel Gomez from Sierra Blanca ISD (Elementary), Brenda Carrillo from Tornillo ISD (Secondary), and Superintendent Jose G. Franco from Fort Hancock ISD, along with all the outstanding nominees who represent the heart and soul of education in our region.
For over 20 years, Raiz has partnered with Region 19 to honor these extraordinary educators whose passion, resilience, and commitment continue to shape the future of countless young minds. Raiz amplified its support this year by increasing cash prizes for teacher and superintendent winners and nominees. Additionally, in partnership with the Sun Bowl Association, the credit union will spotlight and celebrate the educators' achievements during the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade and Sun Bowl Game.
"Educators are the architects of our future, guiding young minds and planting seeds of hope that will flourish for generations to come," shared Raiz President and CEO, Max Villaronga. "In 1936, seven educators established what is now Raiz Federal Credit Union. Their vision of 'people helping people' has guided us for nearly nine decades, and we remain committed to supporting their growth, pursuit of knowledge, and the many community members they inspire."
Raiz honors its roots by creating programs inspired by educators that foster growth, financial wellness, and community impact, including:
- Educator Appreciation Offers – Special loans and rate discounts designed to ease back-to-school expenses and classroom needs.
- Financial Literacy for Students – Free, gamified online financial education resources for students as young as eight, complete with teacher classroom guides.
- High School Spirit Debit Card Program – Since its start in 2019, over $188,000 has been raised for student clubs, sports, and community organizations through debit card usage.
- Raiz Up Professional Development Grant – Annual grant opportunity of up to $3,500, for one teacher from each Region 19 district to attend the conference or training of their choice.
The achievements of this year’s honorees remind us that education requires community investment, encouragement, and vision. Raiz Federal Credit Union proudly champions this mission through programs that honor educators, strengthen classrooms, and expand opportunities for students across our region.
