Redwood Credit Union shares Youth Month Magic

Young Savers Catch the $ave Wave during Credit Union Youth Awareness Month

SANTA ROSA, CA (May 27, 2014) — Redwood Credit Union (RCU) recently participated in Youth Awareness Month, promoting good saving habits and smart money skills for children and teens. This year’s motto was “Catch the $ave Wave”. A total of 3,109 young Members made deposits into their accounts, totaling approximately $1,093,200 and nearly 400 new youth accounts were opened during Youth Month.

RCU participated by offering helpful educational handouts with money tips to kids, they ran a month-long coloring contest and created the $100 RCU Savings Challenge. As part of the Savings Challenge, RCU awarded $100 to one young Member at each of its 18 branch locations. Winners were selected by a random drawing from all RCU youth account Members who made deposits to their accounts during Youth Month. Additionally, the Credit Union hosted a coloring contest for kids under 12 and a comic strip contest for teens up to 17. Each RCU branch selected a winning coloring contest entrant to win a colorful beach themed RCU t-shirt and a winning comic strip contest to win a $25 gift card.

“Redwood Credit Union is committed to helping our community’s youth learn about money matters at an early age, so they can develop good money management skills that will last their lifetime,” shared Robin McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications.

RCU’s Youth Account program is divided into two groups: Jr. Rangers, for children up to 12 years old, and Jr. Partners for teens 13-17.
