RRHS student’s design chosen for A+FCU debit card

ROUND ROCK, TX (July 7, 2014) — A Dragon debit card designed by Round Rock High School student Ashley Spikes will be available to A+ Federal Credit Union members this year as A+FCU prepares to open a new branch inside the high school.

A+FCU hosted a competition for students to design a new card, selecting the card depicting the green eye of a red dragon by Spikes, who received a $500 Visa gift card for her submission.

“It’s important to have the students involved in creating their new branch,” A+ Federal Credit Union CEO Kerry A.S. Parker said. “Ashley’s entry is creative and captures a unique version of the Round Rock High School Dragon.”

A+ Federal Credit Union members can use this custom debit card to earn cash for RRHS. For each credit transaction a member makes with the card, A+ Federal Credit Union will give 5 cents back to the school.

“Ashley has competed in the Round Rock ISD Secondary Show and Visual Art Scholastic Event in which she has received accolades commending her achievements in the field of fine art,” RRHS visual arts teacher Justin Jackley said.

In April, A+FCU and RRISD announced the opening of the new prance to promote financial literacy at RRHS and to prepare students for the workforce through a student-operated, high school branch for the upcoming school year.

The branch will be staffed by 3-5 student interns who will receive school credit and pay for their work. The interns will be responsible for providing onsite financial services to peers, faculty and staff members, as well as community members. A supervisor from the A+FCU Round Rock branch will oversee office operations and conduct account opening and loan processes. The program will also include a micro-loan fund for the school’s entrepreneur class, where students will be able to apply for business funding.

A+ Federal Credit Union has 17 Austin area locations, over $1 billion assets and more than 115,000 members that include not only educators, students and their families but other members of the community. For more information on A+ Federal Credit Union, visit aplusfcu.org
