San Diego County Credit Union honors student filmmakers

SDCCU was proud to present the Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) Awards and Student Film Festival

San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, was the proud presenting sponsor of the Media Arts Center San Diego’s Innovative Video in Education (iVIE) Awards and Student Film Festival on June 1, 2019 for the tenth consecutive year. The 18th annual awards program honored elementary, middle and high school students for their original video work.

“SDCCU is proud to sponsor the Innovative in Education Student Film Awards and Film Festival and support the encouragement of creativity and innovation among today’s students. We are pleased to reward creativity, especially in future generations,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell.

The festival and awards took place on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Reading Cinemas Grossmont in La Mesa. SDCCU provided a $500 prize to the three Bill Simpson Grand Recognition winners from each age group. Sherman Elementary School Grades K-5 won for “Little Witches and the Air Pollution Pair,” Ramona Elementary School Grades 6-8 won for “The Perfect Doll,” and Rancho Bernardo High School Grades 9-12 won for “Kain NA”.

The main purpose of iVIE is to encourage students to utilize video production as a project-based learning tool. Since 2001, iVIE has grown into a major video competition with hundreds of video submissions each year that are judged by media professionals and educators. Entries are submitted in a variety of categories ranging from math, science and language arts to documentary and public service announcements. Categories include all grade levels (elementary to high school) and in every curriculum area, from math to broadcast journalism. For more information, visit ivieawards.org.
