San Diego County Credit Union shows continued growth through the end of 2019
Now serving over 421,900 customers
SAN DIEGO, CA (February 28, 2020) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, released financial results for 2019. SDCCU’s customer base ended the year at 421,986, welcoming nearly 44,000 new customers and representing an increase of 4.5 percent from last year. SDCCU reported that total assets were $8.5 billion at the end of 2019. Return on assets continues to be strong at 1.12 percent for the year 2019.

SDCCU’s net-worth-to-assets ratio for 2019 was 16.54 percent, well above the 7 percent minimum capital level required for credit unions to be regarded as “well-capitalized” as specified by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). The NCUA is an independent federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions and insures deposits in federal and most state-chartered credit unions in the United States.
SDCCU has experienced several highlights in 2019. SDCCU is now proudly serving over 421,900 customers in San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties. We were named San Diego’s BEST Credit Union for the 20th consecutive year by readers of The San Diego Union-Tribune. SDCCU also was selected in the recent 2019 Readers Poll as San Diego’s BEST Financial Planner and BEST Home Loan Provider for the tenth year in a row – and BEST Auto Loan Provider for the sixth year in a row. Additionally, SDCCU held a successful 2019 SDCCU Super Shred Event, where more than 239,000 pounds of waste paper was collected, shredded and recycled in an 8-hour period to earn SDCCU a new Guinness World Records™ title. Approximately 12,000 people turned out at SDCCU Stadium on June 15 to properly dispose of confidential information, and more than $5,000 was raised for SDCCU Stuff the Bus. Our 2019 SDCCU® Stuff the Bus campaign, held in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) and iHeartMedia radio stations, collected a total of 6,895 filled backpacks, over 3,000 passion planners and a total of 269,503 school supplies for a total value of $329,634 to better prepare students for success as they head back to school this year. SDCCU also remained the title sponsor of the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl played on December 27, 2019 at the SDCCU Stadium. $1 from each ticket sold was donated to the Biz Kid$ program, resulting in a $48,500 donation. SDCCU’s customers and employees also donated more than 2,000 toys this year for the annual Holiday Toy Drive benefiting Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego and CHOC Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
