San Diego County Credit Union supports Innovation in Education Awards

Awards recognize outstanding and innovative programs that improve outcomes in classrooms throughout San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 29, 2014)
San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally owned financial institution, is proud to recognize exemplary innovations in education by serving as a sponsor of the 11th annual Innovation in Education Awards, presented by the San Diego County Office of Education and the Classroom of the Future Foundation (CFF).

Since 2004, CFF has recognized innovative programs and projects in San Diego County that have demonstrated the power and scope of ways to improve K-12 education. The educational community has embraced the annual CFF Innovation in Education Awards as recognition of exemplary innovations. The CFF mission statement is: “To engage business, community and educational leaders in creating innovative learning environments in San Diego County K-12 public schools that prepare our students to thrive in a competitive, global society.”

Nominations are submitted by teachers, principals, district administrators, business partners and volunteers about an innovative project or program in a K-12 classroom, school or district. Awards are presented in four categories, including “inspire,” “innovate,” “achieve” and “impact.” The “inspire” award is for a program that gets kids excited about learning. The “innovate” award showcases a creative and unique program that enhances student learning. The “achieve” award demonstrates tangible results and evidence that drives student learning. The “impact” award is a best-of-show award given to one entry that best embodies the other three categories. CFF presents a trophy and a check for $5,000 to winners in the “inspire,” “innovate” and “achieve” categories. A $10,000 check was presented for the entry in the “impact” category, signifying the best of the best.

“SDCCU is interested in supporting programs that highlight innovative work, that inspire students to learn and achieve their goals. We are proud to join the San Diego County Office of Education and the Classroom of the Future Foundation in this worthwhile endeavor,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.

The 2014 Innovation in Education Awards celebration dinner was held on Wednesday, May 21, at the University of San Diego, Hahn University Center, in San Diego. More than 500 educators, business leaders and students attended to celebrate innovation and honor achievement.
