SAN DIEGO, CA (November 14, 2014) -- San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is proud to announce it has been recognized for outstanding human resources practices with its selection for a 2014 Workplace Excellence Award by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), San Diego chapter.
SDCCU was selected in the large company category for its Corporate Wellness Program that has resulted in lower healthcare costs, improved productivity and morale and, ultimately, continued growth and success. The award was presented on Thursday, Nov. 6.
“This award is a much-deserved recognition for our talented, passionate, focused and strategic Human Resources Department that developed and implemented an extremely successful comprehensive Corporate Wellness Program,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck. “Our corporate wellness program has proven to not only improve the health of our employees but has also enhanced our bottom line. Management has seen increased employee retention, recruitment, service level achievements and a healthier workforce. HR is essential in the hiring of well-qualified candidates, culture emersion and the ongoing training that makes us who we are.”
Since the corporate wellness program was launched two years ago, SDCCU said employee engagement has increased to 37 percent of employees participating in a healthy initiative. Included in the corporate wellness program was SDCCU’s “Know Your Numbers” campaign that encouraged employees to understand the status of their health and then determine a plan for improving it. Aspects of the campaign include an onsite gym, walking contest, smoking cessation program, alcohol and drug abuse prevention, discounts on farmers market produce, mental wellness assistance and pet insurance to lower stress levels.
SDCCU’s corporate wellness program is part of its “Feel the Teal” culture, an internal communications program for employees that promotes a sense of pride and passion for the credit union’s brand, work and community.
