SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 29, 2014) -- San Francisco Federal Credit Union, a not-for-profit, member-owned financial institution serving San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, recently celebrated their 60th Anniversary with a week of festivities throughout both counties.
The Credit Union celebrated with 60 events throughout the week of October 13th to 18th, some of which included a budgeting simulation for youth, financial learning workshops, opportunities for members and their families to shred sensitive documents in a secure environment, and many more. In addition, several employees from San Francisco FCU volunteered numerous hours to local food banks including San Francisco and Marin Food Bank, as well as Second Harvest in San Carlos.
In the spirit of the founding of the Credit Union in 1954, and its efforts to provide quality local service, San Francisco Federal Credit Union employees took this opportunity to show appreciation to members of the communities they serve. All five branches organized in-person pizza deliveries to their local YMCA chapters, passed out $2.00 bills at local MUNI stops to travelers, and provided local food truck meals to those in the community.
The San Francisco Federal Credit Union was joined by members and their families, staff, and board members to celebrate their 60th Anniversary and commemorate its founding. The Credit Union was started by a local accountant, George Trelut, in 1954 as a safe and secure place to obtain low-cost loans and to save money. Started at Trelut’s kitchen table on Capp Street, the San Francisco FCU continued to grow and now serves over 32,000 members in San Francisco and San Mateo Counties.
