Scott Credit Union Kidz Club to host fall event

Big Barkers Club Activities Include Rams Street Team, Pumpkin Patch

WATERLOO, IL (September 10, 2014) — Scott Credit Union’s Big Barkers Kidz Club will host a Fall Celebration from 10am to noon on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the credit union’s branch at 1019 N. Illinois Route 3 in Waterloo.

Club members are invited to visit the branch during the event, which will feature the St. Louis Rams Street Team, a bounce house, face painting, a pumpkin patch, games, refreshments, giveaways and a drawing for a fun fall basket.

“We invite our Kidz Club members to come out and enjoy a fun-filled morning,” said SCU Community Relations Representative Cassidy Beck. “We’ll have Scotty, our Big Barkers Kidz Club mascot on hand to visit and take pictures with the kids.”

Scott Credit Union is also inviting kids who want to join the club to come out and enjoy the event.

Scott Credit Union launched its Big Barkers Kidz Club a few years ago. The club is aimed at encouraging kids to learn about and save money. The club, which is free to kids who open an account with Scott Credit Union, offers kids a higher-rate savings account and offers prizes as they save.

“We welcome kids to come out to our Fall Celebration to have some fun and join the Big Barkers Kidz Club,” Beck said.

For more information about the Big Barkers Kidz Club and the Fall Celebration, visit the Kidz Club web site at www.scu.org.

“Each of our Big Barkers Kidz Club members get a punch card,” added Beck. “When they have made four deposits into their account, and have had the card punched four times, they get to choose a prize. We hope this will keep the kids interested in saving.”

Members of the club also get their own savings passbook to keep track of how much they have saved, Beck noted.

The Big Barkers Kidz Club also offers kids the opportunity to open a certificate with a $500 minimum balance once they have saved that amount.

“The idea is to teach them that they can earn more interest on their money as the amount they have saved grows,” Beck said. “It also opens their eyes to the fact that there are other tools that can help them save.”

Additionally, members of the Big Barkers Kidz Club also have an interactive club web site at www.scu.org that includes several pages of games and fun links, tips about saving, information about the value of credit unions, information about club events and even a tool that they can use to email Scotty the Dog.

“The mascot of the Big Barkers Kidz Club is Scotty the Dog,” Beck noted. “Scotty is a Scottish Terrier and his name comes from our Scott Credit Union name. The kids can email any question to Scotty and they will get an email response.”

The club web site also has a variety of links to other fun and educational kids web sites.

“Our goal with the club is really to create a more fun experience for our young members,” Beck said. “We want them to have a positive experience at a young age as they learn about saving money. We truly believe that their experience at this age will stick with them when it comes to handling their finances.”
