Scott Credit Union to Sponsor Shrine Way of Lights

October 25, 2012 –– Scott Credit Union recently presented a $5,000 check to representatives from The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows to sponsor several events at the local Shrine.

Scott Credit Union will sponsor the annual Way of Lights; the 2013 Way of Lights 5K Run; Girls Day Out; and the Tails, Trails & Twinkles event held during Way of Lights.

The annual Way of Lights will be held Nov. 16, 2012, through Dec. 31, 2012. The event is a unique celebration of Christmas featuring a drive-thru light display, with over 1.1 million lights, tree & wreath displays, an interactive children’s village, camel rides and an indoor LASER show. The admission to Way of Lights is free.

The Tails, Trails, and Twinkles event on Nov. 25 will feature a walk through the Way of Lights for area residents and their dogs as well as a “barket” market featuring local pet-friendly vendors. The walk will start at the Our Lady of the Snows Church parking lot and will culminate at the Lourdes Grotto where clergy will be on hand to bless the dogs.

Scott Credit Union will have a tent at the event and will provide participants with bottled water and doggy biscuits. SCU’s Big Barker’s Kids Club mascot, “Scotty” also will be on hand to lead the walk.

The Shrine’s Girls Day Out will be held on Nov. 17 and will feature holiday shopping, a quarter auction and more. The event will be held in the Visitors & Conference Center at the Shrine.

The Way of Lights 5K run at the Shrine will be held on Jan. 7, 2013.

Scott Credit Union Community Relations Representative Jennifer Riebold presented the sponsorship check recently to Shrine Marketing Manager Chris Diel and Sales & Sponsorship Executive Nicole Yocks.

Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed about $200,000 and its employees volunteered over 2,200 hours to a variety of local civic efforts throughout the region in 2011.

“We realize that without our members and the communities in which we serve, we would not exist as a financial alternative,” Riebold noted. “Supporting our communities is very important to us.”

The credit union has increased its community involvement in the past few years while also increasing its efforts to educate consumers of the value of doing their financial business with a not-for-profit credit union.

“We really want people in the area to know more about the value of doing business with a credit union,” she added. “That is why we have really focused our time on educating area residents about Scott Credit Union. One of the big ways we’ve done that is through our community involvement.”

“In times like these, people are really looking for ways to reduce expenses and save money,” Riebold noted. “We are a great alternative that helps them to do that.”

Scott Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works in a 17 county area, including Madison, St. Clair, Monroe, Randolph, Perry, Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Clinton, Marion, Bond, Macoupin, Montgomery, Fayette, Effingham, Williamson, and Jackson counties.
