SECU donates computers to United Way of the Greater Triangle T4T Program

RALEIGH, NC (December 17, 2014) -- State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is spreading a little holiday cheer this season with its recent donation of 20 desktop computers to the United Way of the Greater Triangle’s Teaming for Technology (T4T) program.  SECU’s donation will support T4T’s mission of providing refurbished computers to North Carolina schools and non-profits, helping them increase their operating efficiency, deliver their services more effectively and leverage their resources.  The computer surplus was a result of the Credit Union’s upgrade of its older units in branches and operations centers this year.

“T4T was established sixteen years ago during the crux of the tech boom to bridge the digital divide between those who have technology in our State and those who do not,” said Joe Burgess, Teaming for Technology Manager.  “As technology has evolved and become integrated into everyday life, T4T has remained a very important program for the community that relies on donations of hardware from caring and civic-minded organizations like State Employees’ Credit Union.”

Educational institutions and over 100 non-profit organizations depend on United Way of the Greater Triangle’s Teaming for Technology program annually to meet their computer hardware needs.  Donations to T4T assist programs in support of financial literacy, youth leadership, and health and disability support services through non-profits such as Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Freedom House Recovery Center and the Orange County Disability Awareness Council, to name a few.

Burgess continued, “With SECU’s donation and help from many volunteers who refurbish the computers, we are providing the tools and capability for area schools and non-profits to provide basic computer skills training to senior citizens, as well as mentor, tutor and provide educational services to youth and individuals with disabilities.  We are very grateful to State Employees’ Credit Union for their support and dedication to helping others in need.”

Randall Welborn, Senior Vice President of SECU’s Chapel Hill-Pittsboro Street branch and donation coordinator commented, “We are pleased the computers will be used in our local communities, benefiting citizens who need access to these resources.  Our surplus has provided SECU a wonderful opportunity to make a contribution of computers where we know they are needed and will be greatly appreciated.”
