Security Service Charitable Foundation donates $2,500 to The Road Home

Donation to purchase sanitizing equipment for the shelter

SAN ANTONIO, TX (December 1, 2020) — The Security Service Charitable Foundation has provided The Road Home with a $2,500 donation to purchase electrostatic sprayers and cleaning tablets for the shelter. These items are helping the facility sanitize more thoroughly during the COVID-19 pandemic as many patrons fall into vulnerable populations.

Since 2005, The Road Home has operated using the nationally recognized shelter practices of Housing First, an approach of homeless assistance that focuses on helping people into housing and connecting them with other needed resources. Each of the center’s facilities offer basic necessities and safety including a bed, shower, nutritious meals, and clothing.

“Thanks to the Security Service Charitable Foundation, our new electrostatic sprayers and cleaning tablets are ensuring that The Road Home’s facilities are disinfected even more thoroughly, helping individuals feel safe and less vulnerable during COVID-19,” said Dee Norton, director of impact and facilities for The Road Home.

In 2019, The Road Home sheltered over 8,000 individuals including 676 families. Beyond assisting them with short-term needs, housing-focused case managers were able to connect them with community resources, reducing the time they spent in homelessness.

“The Road Home plays a critical role in rehousing people in need throughout Utah,” said Ben Wiseman senior vice president of member service—Mountain West Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are honored to be able to help them increase cleaning processes amidst COVID-19 so that they can continue impacting lives for generations to come.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union’s market areas.
