BALTIMORE, MD (August 25, 2025) |
Securityplus Federal Credit Union proudly participated in the 5th Annual Black Business Matters EXPO, hosted by The AFRO, to celebrate and support Black entrepreneurship, community collaboration, and economic empowerment.
Held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum on August 14, the EXPO brought together community leaders, small business owners, and financial advocates for a day of learning, networking, and opportunity. Representing Securityplus were Anthony Carpenter, Vice President of Business Services, and Jessica Taylor, Senior Business Services Specialist, who shared insights into the credit union’s support for small business development and local partnerships.
“At Securityplus, we believe thriving communities are built on strong partnerships and economic opportunity,” said Anthony Carpenter. “Supporting The AFRO’s Black Business Matters EXPO is more than an event for us—it’s a chance to celebrate entrepreneurship and strengthen the connections that empower Baltimore.”
Securityplus team members also cheered on participants in the Power Pitch competition—a live, “Shark Tank”-style pitch session where three entrepreneurs competed for the AFRO Business Prize Kit. By supporting this event, Securityplus continues to champion business leaders of all backgrounds and help turn bold ideas into lasting impact.
The team was further supported by Markia Kelson and Ty’j Jennings, both Financial Services Representatives III, who engaged attendees, answered questions, distributed giveaways, and helped create a welcoming environment at the Securityplus table.
“We are proud of our partnership with The AFRO and our team’s involvement in this year’s EXPO,” said Obi Ndukwe, Chief People and Impact Officer. “It reflects our deep commitment to equity, financial education, and investing in the people and businesses that make Baltimore thrive.”
Securityplus remains committed to uplifting underrepresented voices, promoting financial wellness, and creating access to resources for small businesses across the region.
