SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (June 12, 2014) -- Through the generosity of its members, SESLOC Federal Credit Union recently presented the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County a check for $9,705, to benefit the “Lovin’ Lunchbox” program.
“Lovin' Lunchbox”, which is part of the Summer Feeding Service Program, provides meals to children during the summer months when school is not in session.
Kelli Beck, SESLOC Senior Vice President of Marketing and Service Management, commented on the importance of the program, “As a credit union founded by educators, we’re committed to both youth and education. We know that good nutrition is the foundation for good learning and we’re proud to support this local program that is making a real difference in our community.”
Each April during Youth Month SESLOC has invited members to join them in supporting this program with the theme “Feeding Young Minds and Bodies.” Over the past three years, the credit union has contributed nearly $27,000 to this countywide program. In that time the program has grown from serving at 8 sites to serving at 17.
In SLO County approximately 16,000 children are on free and reduced cost lunch throughout the school year but during the summer their families struggle to provide enough nutrition for growing bodies. The Food Bank’s Summer Feeding Service Program can provide up to two healthy meals or snacks per day to children and teenagers 18 years and younger at several locations throughout the county.
Working hand in hand with volunteers, donors, corporate sponsors and non-profit agency partners, The Food Bank Coalition is the only countywide source of nutritious food for people in need.
