SIU Credit Union aids after Brookport, IL disaster

CARDONDALE, IL (November 26, 2013) — In the aftermath of a natural disaster that affected many across the Midwest region of the United States, SIU Credit Union proudly helps and supports Brookport, IL (Massac County). Forty-eight homes were damaged during the tornado and many were left without food, water and electricity. Within a 24-hr period all residents and been accounted for, with three total fatalities.

To be of immediate assistance, SIU Credit Union staff offered free hot lunch for those who were affected by the tornado the following day from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at their Massac County branch. SIU Credit Union staff volunteered at the First Baptist Church in Metropolis to sort donation care packages. The credit union also sent out an email blast to all of their members in Massac County and called each individual to check on their well-being.

As part of their ongoing support, all SIU Credit Union branches are accepting monetary donations to help the victims of the Brookport tornado. Donations can be made out to the Southern Illinois Community Foundation – Brookport Regional Disaster Relief Fund (all donations are tax deductible) and can also be made online at www.sicf.org.
