Solarity Credit Union partners with Habitat for Humanity, employees donate more than $13,000 from paychecks

YAKIMA, WA (March 16, 2019) — Solarity Credit Union employees donate $13,467.60 from paycheck contributions as part of a community partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

Solarity values giving back to the communities we live in. Each year, employees volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Solarity’s community partner. In addition, employees raise funds for the organization through voluntary paycheck contributions.

“Solarity values Habitat for Humanity’s vision of giving families a place to call home by providing strength, stability, and independence for families who may not have the opportunity to otherwise,” Johnathan Choe, Solarity’s Chief Lending Officer said.

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization where alongside it’s many volunteers, provides affordable homes to families in need. Solarity’s contribution helps to keep the land, materials and building costs low for families receiving the homes.

On March 14th in Granger, employees had the opportunity to present the check from their paycheck contributions and work on a build site.

One of the future home owners, Judi Montes, provided lunch for the crew and the volunteers had the opportunity to hear her story. Montes is a single parent to three daughters and she applied for the Habitat for Humanity program three years ago. She will be receiving the first of five homes built on the Granger property.

“In one day, you can see the progress made on your house already by volunteers. It makes you really grateful,” Montes said. “Knowing we are going to have an actual house where we can sit down and have meals together, have a backyard and be warm in the winter, it’s just a big blessing.”

In addition to the 500 hours the families themselves put in to build the home, Habitat for Humanity depends on volunteers as a source of the building labor for the homes. Solarity employees will continue to volunteer quarterly on Habitat for Humanity build sites across Yakima County.
