Southern Connecticut State University student selected as Connex Credit Union’s “Vice President of Unbanking”

University student to serve as ambassador, connecting credit union to younger audience

NORTH HAVEN, CT (April 11, 2015) — Imagine not even graduating college yet and being hired by one of Connecticut’s largest credit unions with the vice president title? For one lucky college student, this opportunity has been fulfilled. Earlier this year, Connex Credit Union sent out a call seeking a college student to serve as its next Vice President of Unbanking, a paid college internship within the credit union. Spencer Price, a communication major at Southern Connecticut State University, was recently selected for the position.

The Vice President of Unbanking position is a marketing and multimedia internship where a college student will help communicate the benefits of credit unions and Connex to a younger audience. The internship runs the course of the academic school year.

As the Vice President of Unbanking, Price will be an integral part of Connex Credit Union’s social media programs and content, assisting in the development of marketing programs and projects, as well as participating in special events and grass-roots marketing efforts. Price will work within the Connex marketing team and assist with daily marketing functions.

“The Vice President of Unbanking position is an incredible opportunity for a college student to gain real world work experience,” said Louise Nestor, marketing director, Connex Credit Union. “Price will work together with the marketing team to develop programs that reach a younger audience and help educate them on financial literacy, the benefits of credit unions and lead our social media efforts.”

Nestor also added that this year marks the fifth consecutive year of the program for Connex. “We find the program helps both the student gain the real world experience they need to succeed, and it also helps Connex connect with a younger audience. We look forward to working with Spencer and welcome him to the marketing team.”

“I was more than happy when I found out that I was chosen for the position,” said Spencer Price. “I have a strong multimedia and video background and look forward to working with Connex on incorporating more video into our social media efforts. I’m ready for the challenge and am excited to help people in my age group better understand the benefits of credit unions.”
