Spero Financial named a Top 10 Credit Union to Work For in the Nation

GREENVILLE, SC (August 30, 2022) — Spero Financial has been named by American Banker as a top 10 Best Credit Union to Work for in the nation.

In the Best Credit Unions to Work For list, released on August 30, 2022, American Banker announced 70 credit unions that made the list from across the country. Spero Financial ranked #10!

In response to the news, Spero Financial President and CEO Brian McKay shared, “Being named a best place to work in South Carolina and now being named Top 10 credit union in the entire nation is truly an honor. It’s validation that putting people first is the best strategy. When you take care of your people, they take care of the business.”

When asked what makes Spero Financial special, he responded, “We encourage everyone to bring their entire, authentic selves to work every single day. That’s who we are, a group of unique individuals working collectively to make our communities better places to live, work, and play. As a credit union, we talk a lot about community, and we know community is built on unity. This driving focus, paired with our commitment to create a work environment built on transparency and collaboration, has created the vibrant culture that we all enjoy.”

He continued, “We honestly consider each other family. I may be a little biased, but I believe our people are the best of the best. People are everything. Culture is everything. That’s what makes our credit union so special. I am proud to be part of this organization and know this is just the beginning of even greater things to come.”

This distinction is awarded by American Banker in partnership with the Best Companies Group. Of the 70 credit unions that made the list, they are headquartered across 24 states and range in employee count from 28 to upwards of 3,000.

Winners were selected based on two different surveys. The first evaluated employee satisfaction in the areas of leadership, planning, corporate culture, communication, and overall engagement. Of the winners, employees reported having a better work-life balance, receiving effective communication from leadership, and being empowered in their work responsibilities. The second examined the benefits and polices of the credit union. Winning institutions reported having employee-centric perks such as significate matches to retirement plans, fun work events such as parties and friendly competitions, and placed an emphasis on professional development.
