St. Alfred to receive over 480 pairs of skates and helmets

Skates for Kids Program to collect gently used skates for students in need

PenFinancial Credit Union is proud to announce that St. Alfred School in St. Catharines has been chosen as a recipient of the 2014/15 Skates for Kids Program. An official, school-wide assembly will take place with program partners to help generate excitement and awareness for the Skates for Kids Program which will officially launch in November.

Announce the program to students, staff and the parent community. Generate support for the Program in St. Catharines. PenFinancial Credit Union and its partners want children to feel excited about their first time on the ice!

St. Alfred School is considered a ‘high needs’ school, with many children and their families living at or below the poverty line. Most of these students have never been afforded the luxury of learning to skate, participate in on-ice recreation programs or organized ice sports because they don’t own a pair of skates.

The Skates for Kids program collects gently used skates in order to donate them to schools that would not otherwise be able to organize a skating program. To date, the Skates for Kids program has donated over 2,500 pairs of skates and purchased over 1,000 CSA approved helmets for schools in Niagara. PenFinancial Credit Union is a Niagara-based financial institution that serves more than 19,000 personal and business members across the Region through eight branches and one Commercial Business Centre.
