Tax Law Veteran, Educator Gets Nod For NCUA Seat

(June 19, 2014) — J. Mark McWatters, tapped by President Obama as a Member of the Board of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), has been confirmed by the United Senate today. Following today’s vote, CUNA President and CEO Bill Hampel issued the following statement:

“Our congratulations to Board Member McWatters on his confirmation by the U.S. Senate to serve on the NCUA Board.  His extensive experience in business, the private practice of law, teaching, congressional staff work, and other endeavors will help him bring a unique perspective to the issues. We at CUNA look forward to discussing a range of issues with Mr. McWatters, including the importance of a strong safety and soundness regulator, while at the same time providing much needed regulatory relief for credit unions.”

McWatters will take the seat of fellow Republican Michael Fryzel, whose term officially expired in August. McWatters’ six-year term will run until August, 2019.
