Students awarded 2015 Dakotas’ Credit Unions Scholarships

BISMARCK, ND (June 16, 2015) — Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD) awarded ten $500 Dakotas’ Credit Union High School Financial Scholarships to the following North Dakota and South Dakota students.

The recipients for North Dakota are:

  • Leslie A. Hibl – a senior graduating from Wahpeton High School in Wahpeton is a member of Town & Country Credit Union
  • Kaitlyn H. Stenberg – a senior graduating from Magic City Campus in Minot is a member of Minot Area Schools Federal Credit Union
  • Joanna B. Larson – a senior graduating from New Rockford/Sheyenne High School in New Rockford is a member of Community Credit Union
  • Casondra J. Rutschke – a senior graduating from Zeeland High School in Zeeland is a member of Hometown Credit Union
  • Bailey J. Aanenson – is a senior graduating from West Fargo High School in West Fargo is a member of Postal Family Federal Credit Union

The recipients for South Dakota are:

  • James A. Hubbeling – a senior graduating from Rapid City Christian High School in Rapid City is a member of Sentinel Federal Credit Union
  • Mariah A. VanderWal- is a senior graduating from Sioux Valley High School in Volga is a member of Dakotaland Federal Credit Union
  • Kelsey J. Blue – a senior graduating from Iroquois High School in Iroquois a member of Dakotland Federal Credit Union and Huron Area Education Federal Credit Union
  • Joseph M. Barnes – a senior graduating from Spearfish High School in Spearfish is a member of Black Hills Federal Credit Union
  • Kasey R. Waage – a senior graduating from Groton Area High School in Groton is a member of HB Telco Federal Credit Union

All of the students plan to use the individual $500 scholarships to pursue degrees in higher education. The scholarship is designed for high school seniors who are credit union members.

A panel of five judges selected the students based upon a selected essay written by the students. The applicants chose to write about one of two topics: “How, through your involvement in the community/school activities, events, or volunteer efforts have you shown the cooperative spirit?” or “What can your credit union do to continue providing you with financial solutions for a lifetime?”

Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD) is the trade association serving credit unions in the Dakotas. CUAD serves 70 credit unions in North and South Dakota, serving over 445,000 members, with assets in excess of $5.9 billion.
