Bremerton, WA (April 21, 2026) |
Approximately 180 students stepped into the roles of working adults during the “Bite of Reality” financial simulation held at Bremerton High School on Friday, April 17. The event, a collaborative effort between Kitsap Credit Union and the Kitsap Asset Building Coalition, brought together students, volunteers, and community leaders for an immersive experience focused on real-world money management in recognition of Financial Awareness Month.
Throughout the day, students navigated a series of financial decisions—from budgeting for housing, transportation, and groceries to handling unexpected expenses—offering a hands-on look at the challenges and tradeoffs of adult financial life. The interactive format encouraged participants to think critically about spending, saving, and long-term financial planning.
The event was supported by 24 community volunteers who guided students through the simulation and shared practical insights. State leadership was represented by Senator Deborah Krishnadasan, who attended the event.
Kitsap Credit Union’s commitment to financial education in the communities it serves was reflected in the event’s hands-on approach, providing students with a meaningful opportunity to experience financial decision-making in a safe and supportive environment. Through partnerships with local organizations and schools, the credit union continues to help equip young people with the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed financial choices.
The event underscored the importance of financial literacy education and demonstrated the impact of strong community partnerships in preparing youth for future success.
