Sussex County FCU makes generous donation to Clothing Our Kids

SEAFORD, DE (April 20, 2015) — Mary Rio, a retired office manager has a passion for helping others. It all started one afternoon when her husband John, an assistant principal at a Maryland elementary school, came home with a story of a student who was being bullied for wearing the same clothes every day. He asked her to gather some of the gently used clothing of their grandchildren to take in for the student.

This simple request was the start of a life altering journey that launched the not for profit organization, Clothing Our Kids, whose mission is to improve the lives of at-risk elementary school children by providing them with essential school clothing to directly impact their learning ability and self-esteem. Working exclusively here in Sussex County, last year Mary was able to distribute over 6,000 items to 1,000 children in need. Although never meeting the children she helps, she is well aware of the difference she is able to make.

To help support the livelihood of elementary school children Sussex County Federal Credit Union Foundation made a generous donation of $1,000 to aid in the purchase of new clothing packages. Sussex County FCU Foundation has been built on providing additional resources that support disadvantaged children and their families; therefore, supporting the mission of Clothing Our Kids is a logical correlative to the mission of Sussex County FCU Foundation. For more than 56 years, Sussex County Federal Credit Union has existed as a not-for-profit, member-owned and operated financial institution; serving those who live, work, worship, attend school and/or volunteer in Sussex County or the City of Milford. Visit www.sussexcfcu.com to learn more.
