TRAVERSE CITY, MI (June 4, 2019) — TBA Credit Union recently awarded three scholarships to area students. The ‘2019 Study Abroad Scholarship’ was awarded to Annalisa Wiesner, currently attending Michigan Technological University. Two ‘Invested In’ scholarships were awarded to Elizabeth Jewell, who is graduating from TC West Senior High and Anne Nietling, who is attending Central Michigan University.
The Study Abroad Scholarship Program was launched in 2015 with the purpose of helping fund a students’ study of foreign language and culture, while the ‘Invested In’ scholarship was launched in 2019 with the purpose of helping fund schooling for students committed to volunteerism. Applicants are reviewed by a scholarship committee comprised of three TBACU team members, and recipients are chosen based on overall merit as demonstrated in the applications and accompanying documents.
Wiesner, a mechanical engineering student, will be studying abroad in Vaasa, Finland in search of new opportunities and challenges as well as broadening her cultural experience to create a more diverse perspective. Both Jewell and Nietling are passionate in helping the community with their extensive volunteer history. Nietling committed over three-hundred volunteer hours just during her time in high school and continues to commit her time through the Business Residential College program through CMU. Jewell volunteers for the experiences and the opportunity to connect with the community as a means to grow as a community member as well as an individual.
