SAN DIEGO, CA (January 31, 2023) — San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, is proud to announce that SDCCU President and CEO, Teresa Campbell, was named one of 2022’s Powerful Women in Credit Unions by American Banker. The designation recognizes women leaders in credit unions and the great achievements they have accomplished within their companies and community.
The women leading many of these organizations are ensuring they have a culture of inclusion, not only within their ranks, but in how they serve their members. It’s also crucial for these organizations to be at the forefront of technology development, enabling them to better serve an increasingly digital market as well as maintain relationships with members.
Campbell was selected for her outstanding leadership and demonstrated success at SDCCU since she joined the credit union in 2010. Most notably, under her leadership, SDCCU’s customer base has more than doubled, reaching over 437,000 members, and assets have grown from just under $5 billion to $11.3 billion. She is a strategic and effective leader and has a genuine passion for helping progress the credit union movement. Campbell’s focus on improving lives by providing breakthrough banking products, services, education and extensive community support has tremendously impacted Southern California.

Campbell has earned a number of notable awards for her accomplishments and leadership in the time she has been with SDCCU. In 2022, she was also selected as one of SD Metro Magazine’s Women of Accomplishment. In 2021, she was honored as San Diego Business Woman of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal, recognized with a Stevie Award for Women in Business, selected for a Business Leadership Award from the North San Diego Business Chamber, as well as named one of SD Metro Magazine’s Women of Influence for the second consecutive year.
With over 25 years of experience in the credit union industry, Campbell is well respected for her leadership and affecting positive change not only locally, but also by industry peers. Campbell serves on the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, formerly the Department of Business Oversight, and the CU Advisory Committee. She served a two-year term on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Credit Union Advisory Council from 2018 to 2020. She served as the 2012 and 2013 Board Chair of the California Credit Union League. Campbell also currently serves as the Board Chair of the National Credit Union Foundation.
Campbell’s educational background includes a BS – Accounting from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a MAS – Financial Management from The Johns Hopkins University.
