The Arc receives donation from MCCU & Battle Jacks jersey fundraiser

This summer, the Battle Creek Battle Jacks (Battle Jacks) and Marshall Community Credit Union (MCCU) came together for an inspiring initiative during the 2024 season at MCCU Field. Designed to support The Arc of Calhoun County, a local nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, the campaign featured a limited-edition "Cereal City" jersey that honored Battle Creek’s heritage as the "Cereal Capital of the World."

Worn proudly by the team throughout the season, the Cereal City jerseys captured the spirit of Battle Creek and were auctioned off during the August 9th game to raise funds for The Arc. Through generous bids from the community, the campaign raised $2,000, which was presented to The Arc in early November.

Since 2022, MCCU and the Battle Jacks have worked together each season to support a different local non-profit. “Each year, we choose a nonprofit making an impact locally,” said Laura Van Dyke, MCCU's Financial Education Specialist. “This year, we selected The Arc, an organization that plays a vital role in our community.”

The Arc’s Business Manager, Lisa Wolf, expressed gratitude for the support, noting how meaningful the fundraiser was to the organization’s mission. “Partnering with the Battle Jacks and MCCU helped us amplify our reach within the community,” Wolf said. “Though The Arc has been active for 70 years, there are still people who aren’t aware of our work. With this donation, we can continue essential programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.”

For the Battle Jacks, designing a new jersey each season is both a creative and purposeful effort. "Every year, we aim to design a jersey that fans will love, while supporting a local nonprofit," said Denny Smith, Battle Jacks Vice President of Operations. "Each time our players wore the Cereal City uniforms, we were reminded of the incredible community we represent. We’re honored to partner with MCCU in supporting The Arc of Calhoun County.”

Through this annual fundraising event, MCCU and the Battle Jacks are proud to uplift organizations that make Battle Creek a better place for everyone.
