Towpath Credit Union merges with Goodyear Employees Credit Union
AKRON, OH (October 27, 2022) — In August 2022, the Goodyear Employee CU Board of Directors voted to approve the merger of GECU with Towpath Credit Union. Towpath CU has proudly served Summit County communities since 1936 to promote financial wellness through our not-for-profit model. On October 31, 2022, Towpath Credit Union will be finalizing the acquisition of GECU in Akron, Ohio. A well-capitalize financial institution, GECU has faithfully served employees of Goodyear since 1961.
Rose Bartolomucci, Towpath CU’s CEO, offered the following statement regarding the merger. “The fabric of our communities are the people and the companies that fuel our economy. It is an honor and a privilege to welcome GECU into our Towpath CU family. Goodyear Tire and Rubber has been in our Akron community since 1898, when Frank Seiberling opened its first factory. Goodyear Employees CU was formed in 1961 to help fuel and provide financial services to their own. Much like GECU, Towpath CU has been in the Akron community since 1936 when a group of Akron teachers started it to provide the same, and to give people a hand up in their lives. Today, the partnership of these two staple credit unions depicts the impact continuing to be made in the fabric of our community.”
GECU Members will be met with excellent Member service and a wider breadth of products upon their transition to Towpath CU. GECU CEO, Robin Smyth, stated “”I am so excited for all of our loyal and valued Goodyear CU Members to become a part of the Towpath CU family! It is a fantastic financial institution that has so much more to offer than we were able to provide to you. Edie, Donna and myself will be helping their staff make the transition as smooth as possible for all of you.”
Goodyear Employees CU’s last day in their branch will be October 31, 2022. Members are welcome to visit any of the four Towpath CU branches in Summit County or take advantage of the Shared Branching network which boasts over 5,000 available locations.
