Tribute to long time credit union and public servant

(May 9, 2014) — Retired El Segundo Police lieutenant Walt Krumbach, who died April 27 in a motorcycle accident, was many things to many people: husband, father, grandfather, co-worker.

He was also a longtime member of South Bay Credit Union, well known to staff as a supporter of the institution and its community-based philosophy.

‘We really wanted to honor Walt,” said Jennifer Oliver, President/CEO of South Bay Credit Union. “We chose to donate 31 books to the Literally Healing Library at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, in recognition of his 31 years of membership.”

The Literally Healing program provides books and magazines to patients, as well as to their siblings and parents. SBCU has dedicated its fundraising efforts to CHLA, and so far has helped raise over $2,000 for the hospital, as well as donations of books selected from Literally Healing’s wish list, which is available at the hospital website, www.chla.org.

Krumbach, who started his police career as a cadet in 1979 before being hired as a police officer less than six months later, held many positions in the El Segundo Police Department during his 30-year career. He received a Medal of Valor in 1990 for saving the life of a person involved in a fiery vehicle crash. Following retirement, he became security manager for Chevron Products Company.

Krumbach is survived by his wife, three children and a grandson, as well as his mother.
