Tropical Financial Credit Union President/CEO Richard Helber named Chair of Broward Red Cross

MIRAMAR, FL (June 1, 2015) — Richard Helber, president and CEO of Tropical Financial Credit Union, was named board chairman of the American Red Cross of Broward County. He will serve a three-year term. Helber has been a member of the Broward Red Cross board since 2013 and previously served on the board of the Tampa Bay chapter.

“I’ve been a volunteer for the American Red Cross for a long time and I now look forward to this new leadership role,” said Helber. “Whether it’s the aftermath of a hurricane or house fire in our own backyard or an earthquake on the other side of the world, you can always count on the Red Cross to show up and help people in need.”

For the month of May, Tropical Financial has been raising money for the victims of the earthquake in Nepal.

“Rich has a strong passion for our mission and he has always been there to help us in a time of need,” said Paula Prendergast, executive director of the American Red Cross of Broward County. “I look forward to working with him and the rest of the board to get the word out to other Broward businesses about ways they can help out as well.”

Helber has worked in the credit union industry for most of his career. He joined Tropical Financial Credit Union five years ago as president/CEO.  Prior to that, he was executive vice president/CFO of GTE Federal Credit Union in Tampa. He also served nine years as president/CEO of Central Corporate Credit Union in Michigan and 11 years as an executive with U.S. Central Credit Union in Kansas City.
