Tuttle banker honored for service

TUTTLE, OK (May 16, 2014) — Gregg Vandaveer, president and CEO of Sooner State Bank, in Tuttle, was honored at the Oklahoma Bankers Association’s 117th Annual Convention and Tradeshow held May 15 and 16 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Catoosa. Vandaveer was astonished to be awarded the Chairman’s Award, the most anticipated honor of the convention.

Each year, the OBA’s outgoing chairman recognizes an individual who has rendered extraordinary service to the Oklahoma banking industry in the past year. This year, the 2013-2014 OBA Chairman David Cook selected Vandaveer for his contributions.

“Greg is the one that got me involved in the OBA and I’ve always admired his willingness to serve the OBA and his passion for the OBA,” Cook said. “He epitomizes what a community banker is and how a community banker should stay involved in OBA activities. Our banking community is better because of his hard work and dedication.”

Vandaveer has been involved with the OBA for many years and served as its 2006-2007 chairman. He has also been actively involved with the American Bankers Association.

The OBA conducts more than 70 educational programs and seminars each year, which reach more than 5,000 bankers across the state. The Association represents approximately 230 banks across the state and serves as the primary advocate for the banking industry. It’s also heavily involved in fraud training and prevention as well as legal and compliance services and communications for its member banks.
