With the American Red Cross facing one of the worst blood shortages in decades, United Federal Credit Union partnered with the organization to host a blood drive on August 2, 2022 at its headquarters at 150 Hilltop Road in St. Joseph, Michigan. Through the generosity of employees and individuals from the community, 29 pints of blood were donated. Each pint of blood can save up to three lives.
“United is proud to once again partner with the Red Cross to help fulfill such a crucial need in our community,” said Joshua Pratt, Senior Relationship Development Manager. “We are thankful for the support of Team United, our Members, and the community every time we host a blood drive. United is proud to live the credit union philosophy of people helping people, especially in times of need.”
The American Red Cross said the need for blood is constant. One donation can potentially save up to three lives. It provides about 40% of our nation’s blood and blood components, all from generous volunteer donors.
Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood, according to the American Red Cross. Donations from blood drives help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer.
