United Federal Credit Union helps mobilize Good Shepherd’s Clothes Closet

RENO, NE (October 28, 2014) — A new mobile unit that will expand the reach of the Good Shepherd’s Clothes Closet (GSCC) is officially on the road thanks to support from area businesses including United Federal Credit Union (UFCU).

UFCU donated $2,500 for the cargo van that will serve as a traveling closet to reach at-risk individuals and families in the greater Reno/Sparks area who are unable to travel to Good Shepherd’s downtown Reno location. The van was mobilized on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

“Our van will allow us to take clothes into neighborhoods that need them and will significantly increase the number of people we are able to serve,” said GSCC Executive Director Chris Rhodes.

The initiative was led by the Leadership Reno Sparks program, which selects an annual project to support in the Reno-Sparks area. This year’s goal was to raise funds to increase GSCC’s visibility and community outreach.

UFCU Double R Branch Manager John Nichols participated in the Leadership Reno Sparks program.

“United Federal Credit Union is proud to lend support to such a worthy cause,” said Nichols. “We believe in being good corporate citizens in each of the communities we serve – whether that’s through donations, volunteerism or investment projects.”

In addition to clothing, GSCC provides shoes, blankets and other personal items to the area’s at-risk population.
