United Way and LSC team up with credit unions to assist families impacted by Hurricane Ida

LSC has joined with United Way to help benefit families impacted by Hurricane Ida. The LSC team first sprang into action over Labor Day weekend to coordinate the processing and delivery of United Way funded gift cards to families in need of food, gas, supplies, repairs, and other important items. Over the course of several weeks, the two organizations worked alongside credit unions to provide over 2,500 gift cards to families.

LSC’s Prepaid Team first coordinated with credit unions and United Way volunteers to pick up the plastics over the holiday weekend. LSC worked behind the scenes to ensure the gift cards were ready to deliver into the hands of these families. The five credit unions who stepped up to support the effort include eCO CU (AL), Department of Corrections CU (LA), Members CU (NC), Fort McClellan CU (AL) and Lions Share FCU (NC).

“Partnering with United Way and credit unions to help ease the burden faced by families in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida has been an honor,” says Libby Calderone, President of LSC.  “I’m grateful for the caring and dedicated people at LSC who go the extra mile to partner with credit unions in serving their members and communities.”

"United Way is beyond thankful for LSC and the credit unions' efforts to secure gift cards for struggling families across Southeast Louisiana – it was no easy feat. Because they went above and beyond to meet our request, we were able to surprise more than 2,500 households at our relief pop-ups with $100 in immediate financial assistance to help them afford their most urgent needs," states Michael Williamson, UWSELA President and CEO.
