Urban Outfitters, STCU to be neighbors

QUALCHAN, WA (July 21, 2015) — The STCU Downtown Branch will relocate in late 2016 to space that’s being created in River Park Square, adjacent to the planned Urban Outfitters store at Main Avenue and Wall Street.

The new STCU Downtown Branch will be a total of 2,900 square feet on the street and skywalk levels, where the Saad Building now stands. Of that space, STCU will sublease 400 square feet on the street level to a retailer that hasn’t yet been selected.

A top priority will be assuring that the retail leasee compliments surrounding businesses, and fits with the credit union philosophy of serving the community, said Keith Connolly, STCU Vice President of Retail Delivery.

“Urban Outfitters is going to make the corner of Main and Wall a vibrant center of the downtown shopping experience,” Connolly said. “Relocating our branch to that location gives us a chance to contribute to the resurgence of downtown, while providing greater convenience for our members.”

Bryn West, general manager of River Park Square, noted that until this summer, free carriage rides sponsored by STCU started exactly at the spot where the credit union will have its new front door. (This summer’s free carriage rides, offered Friday nights through August, start at 707 W. Main.)

“We’re excited to have the region’s premier credit union in the region’s premier shopping and entertainment center,” West said.

STCU opened its Downtown Branch in 2000 in the skywalk level of Crescent Court, less than a block from the new location. Downtown Branch employees will move with the branch.

This is STCU’s second major investment in downtown in recent years. In 2013, the credit union acquired the historic Hutton Building at 9 S. Washington, and invested in an extensive renovation project. Last year, STCU opened its Hutton Branch on the main floor and moved its business services/commercial lending team to the seventh floor.

STCU plans to open a Qualchan Branch at 4233 S. Cheney-Spokane Road in early 2016. It will be STCU’s 19th branch location in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
