MADISON, WI (June 17, 2015) — UW Credit Union has chosen six high school seniors to receive $2,000 college scholarships as part of its Community Values Scholarship program.

“Our scholarship program finds individuals who share our commitment to making people’s lives easier and our communities stronger,” said Jaimes Johnson, Director of Community & Campus Relations at UW Credit Union. “We’re proud to recognize these students and all of their achievements.”

The following six individuals were selected:

• Mason Her, Rufus King High School, helped freshmen transition into high school as a Link Crew

  Leader.

• Ryan Kubly, Sun Prairie High School, collected items for the needy as part of his school’s baseball

  program.

• Halle Lambeau, Wauwatosa West High School, taught children about environmental sustainability

  as a volunteer with the YMCA.

• Lauren Lohff, Whitewater High School, organized an American Red Cross blood drive for her

  community along with her school’s National Honor Society.

• Alysia Vang, Green Bay Preble High School, led a Sting Cancer group at her school, assisting

  individuals battling cancer.

• Oskar Zarzycki, James Madison Memorial High School, dedicated time to Camp Awesum, providing support for autistic children and their families.

Recipients also had to be strong academic scholars with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or greater, demonstrate financial need and attend any UW System school or Madison College in the fall of 2015. Students wrote an essay about their community service work, sharing what it meant to the community and to themselves.

“These students discovered an issue and worked to promote change for the better,” said Johnson. “Their compassionate and caring attitudes have made our communities better places to live.”
