WEOKIE Foundation awards $50,000 in college scholarships

On Saturday, March 16, the WEOKIE Foundation will award 25 graduating high school seniors a combined $50,000 in college scholarships. Each of the 25 recipients will receive a $2,000 scholarship for their continued college education. The winners were selected from more than 550 applications received.

The scholarship winners were selected through an essay writing contest. Each student had to submit an essay answering the following: Identify an opportunity to improve things in your community and describe solutions that you believe will address the problem. What specific changes would you make and what do you believe the impact will be? Please explain. Applications were open to all graduating seniors in Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Lincoln, Logan, McClain, Oklahoma, and Pottawatomie counties.
