What he learned at Texas Trust Credit Union helps intern lead successful hospital fund-raising drive
ARLINGTON, TX (April 22, 2019) — For high school senior Dejardin (DJ) Moffett, being an intern at Texas Trust is a perfect fit for learning business skills and being a servant leader.
This future business leader wanted to work at the credit union to acquire some basic business skills and discovered that he and Texas Trust share a common passion for helping people.
When he started as a teller at Texas Trust, Moffett had no idea about the credit union philosophy. He soon discovered that his love for helping people was a perfect fit for the industry.
As senior class president at Mansfield Timberview High School, Moffett oversaw the school’s annual HOG (Helping Others thru Giving) campaign, which raised more than $32,000 for a Children’s Miracle Network hospital.
Moffett applied the business skills he learned at Texas Trust to strengthen his leadership abilities while implementing his school’s HOG weekcampaign.
“Working at Texas Trust has helped me focus on being more responsible and building trust and bonds with members and among coworkers,” said Moffett. “This helped me better relate with my school peers as we worked together to plan and implement HOG week.”
Moffett added, “My job at Texas Trust helped me step out of my comfort zone and has taught me how to build relationships. I didn’t realize how important relationships can be to helping you be successful whether you are working or volunteering.”
Besides his role as Head Hog for HOG week for his high school, Moffett has also been active in a number of Texas Trust’s Community Unity initiatives that have also benefited the Children’s Miracle Network.
“DJ is a natural leader and we are proud of what he has accomplished, both here at Texas Trust and at school,” said Espy Taylor, branch manager at the Grand Prairie Camp Wisdom branch. “He is passionate about helping people, enthusiastic to learn, and gifted in being able to lead others.”
Texas Trust’s internship program is designed to give high school students like Moffett opportunities to work in a professional environment and learn valuable business skills. It also helps educate students about the credit union movement and philosophy as it cultivates future business leaders. Moffett is one of 11 interns currently employed by Texas Trust.
After graduation, Moffett has plans to attend Arizona State University and pursue a business degree.
