Wisconsin Credit Union Industry Raises $50,000 For State Hospitals

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin credit unions and affiliated industry partners contributed $50,000 in 2011 to the state’s Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals.

The money, donated through the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run in Washington, D.C., provides health care for sick and injured youth. Credit unions have made CMN its charity of choice, and have served as the title sponsor of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run for the past 10 years donating a total of $5 million to CMN.  By contributing to CMN, the credit union movement provides aid to thousands of families and exemplified the movement’s defining spirit of ‘people helping people.’

“Over the past decade, the credit union movement has invested in a truly remarkable cause,” said Christopher Roe, senior vice president, Corporate and Legislative Affairs, CUNA Mutual Group. “The movement can be proud of its continued support of the Children’s Miracle Network and the work this organization does for Wisconsin families.”  Roe serves on the Board of Directors of Credit Union Miracle Day along with credit union executives and other industry professionals. CUNA Mutual is one of the lead sponsors of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run.

Other Wisconsin supporters that contributed to Credit Union Miracle Day through the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run include:  Credit Union National Association (CUNA), Fiserv, Credit Union Executives Society (CUES), and the National Credit Union Foundation.

Of the $50,000 raised this year, $15,000 will go to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.  Although the world-renowned Children’s Hospital treats children from across the United States, many of its patients are referred from the Madison area.  The Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center ($15,000) and Marshfield’s St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital ($20,000) also benefited from state credit unions’ fundraising.

U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., who represents the Madison area, served as an honorary co-chair of the run held in April.  On Aug. 24, runners and others affiliated with the race met with Baldwin to share the results of the fundraiser.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is an affiliation of more than 170 children’s hospitals across the United States.  Donations from the Children’s Miracle Network help secure cutting-edge treatments, vital health education, and groundbreaking research for sick or injured children.
