Xceed Financial awards national scholarships to 11 outstanding young members

Scholarships Honor Former Volunteer and Current Board Chair, Demonstrating the Credit Union’s Continued Commitment to Education

EL SEGUNDO, CA (July 15, 2015) — Xceed Financial Credit Union recently awarded 11 young members with $1,000 college scholarships for their outstanding achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. Ten of the students are high school seniors who received the Romeo Doty Scholarship. Now in its eleventh year, the Romeo Doty Scholarship program has awarded more than $110,000 in scholarship money and is named for the Credit Union’s longest-tenured Board member, Romeo Doty, who dreamed of making higher education accessible for all students. The eleventh recipient is a college student who was awarded the Chairman’s Xcellence in Education Scholarship – a scholarship specifically for relatives of Xceed associates. The Chairman’s Xcellence in Education Scholarship program debuted a year ago in honor of the 50-year association between Xceed Financial and Xerox Corporation, and is named for the Credit Union’s Board Chair Dennis Ruffner, who conceived the idea.

Honorees for both scholarships were chosen by the Credit Union’s scholarship committee which considered information submitted by finalists themselves and their schools. All entrants were required to have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 and they were evaluated based on academic performance, as well as their extracurricular activities in their school and community. Each student also wrote an essay describing how young adults can safeguard their finances and use credit wisely.

“At Xceed Financial, we believe that a good education can set an excellent foundation for a person’s lifelong financial security, so we’re thrilled to be able to support these outstanding young members as they pursue their career dreams,” said Xceed Financial President and Chief Executive Teresa Freeborn.

The $1,000 scholarships were presented to each the following students at their local Xceed Financial Center:
