Xceed financial launches Chairman’s Xcellence in education scholarship

EL SEGUNDO, CA (January 7, 2015) — Xceed Financial Credit Union announced the debut of its Chairman’s Xcellence in Education scholarship program, a new $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded annually to the college-bound son or daughter of an Xceed Financial associate.

“By helping associates’ children achieve educational excellence, we affirm the Credit Union’s commitment to everyday excellence in everything we do,” said Xceed Financial President and Chief Executive Teresa Freeborn. The award is referred to as the chairman’s scholarship in honor of the Credit Union’s Board Chair and Executive Committee Chair Dennis Ruffner, who originated the idea.

“Our associates always go the extra mile to help our members improve their financial futures,” said Freeborn. “This new scholarship for their children is one more way that we show our appreciation for everything they do.”

Entry requirements and judging criteria for the Chairman’s Xcellence in Education Scholarship closely mirror those of Xceed Financial’s Romeo Doty Scholarship awards, which has doled out ten $1,000 scholarships each year to youth members at-large for the past decade. High school seniors (or graduates under age 26) with a grade point average of at least 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 write a one-page essay and submit an application with transcripts and extracurricular activities. Students applying to any post-secondary education institutions, including colleges, trade schools, and other accredited institutions (such as culinary institutions) are welcome to apply. Applications are due Jan. 31, 2015. The scholarship winner will be selected on March 28, 2015 and the scholarship will be presented in June.
