The Apple Watch: Here it comes!

Watches are about to be back! Is your mobile app ready for the fun of having your balances and alerts show up on your wrist? Having a “Dick Tracy wrist radio” was always a dream of mine and now, here we are! That said, to be fair, Samsung and others have had a decent offering for some time now, but as usual, Apple waited a bit before releasing their own and has improved upon a number of things.

A few weeks ago, Apple made available the ability to start coding in Xcode for the watch. So in typical BIG fashion, we decided to take a stab at what an FI watch app might look like. As you can see, it’s not all that unattractive and I love the idea that I wont have to pull my phone out of my pocket all the time.

I can see a big benefit in regards to the Apple Pay product. After using Apple Pay for a bit, I realize it would be so much better if I could wave my wrist at the kiosk.  I just wonder how they are going to do TouchID with it?

In my mind, the watch is also missing a camera. I didn’t see one in the specs or the kit. The camera would allow for a quick video, Facetime use and scanning QR codes.

When I look at the watch, it reminds me very much of the original 3Gs.  If we fast forward a few years, I am betting we will see some real design magic in its size, shape and even the materials used.

The prototype is available for our subscribers in the BIG website prototype area.  It’s a good deal, and we have a bunch of exciting prototypes out there. If you plan on doing any development or just want to get your board or staff excited about a new concept, downloading a prototype and branding could be just the thing.
