3 things you shouldn’t talk about with your coworkers

Hopefully you realize that you should never talk about religion and politics at work, but if those are the only topics you’re avoiding, I’m here to tell you there’s more. Even though you spend a lot of time around your coworkers and you may feel like they’re family … unless you work at Olive Garden, it’s just not the case. Here are three more subjects you should definitely avoid with your coworkers…

Money: Finances can be a touchy subject, and this is especially true at work. Any coworkers who are in your salary range might have their own money problems to work out, so don’t bug them with yours. Your boss probably doesn’t want to hear you complain about finances, and any subordinates are probably wishing they made as much money as you do, so really there’s no one left to complain to. If you need to vent about money problems, try talking to your significant other or your dog.

Relationships: Complaining about relationship stuff can be annoying to your coworkers and may make them look at you like you’re crazy. Subjects of this nature are probably better off left to conversations with close friends. And DO NOT talk about sex. That can get creepy really fast. Keep that information to yourself.

Legal problems: Like your relationships, legal issues can easily change people’s positive opinion of you. Whether it’s a divorce, custody battle, lawsuit, or anything worse, there are way too many emotions involved for you to bring those things up between 9 and 5. Keep those issues private at least until they’re resolved and you’ve had time to reflect on them.
