4 Costco must-buys

Costco is more than just the experience, which is already pretty amazing. It’s also where you can find some great deals … as long as you stay focused.

Has anyone else walked in thinking, “I just need paper towels,” and ended up leaving with almost every product you sampled in the store? They certainly know how to reel you in.

Still, there are some tips and tricks shared by sites in-the-know, like Cheapism.com, Consumer Reports and the KrazyCouponLady.com that can help you actually save money at Costco.

Keep an eye out for an asterisk on price tags. It’ll be in the upper right corner and signals that item is about to be replaced. So, if it’s something you’ve been thinking about, be sure to take it home or you may not find it the next time you stop in.

In addition, be sure to always check the Costco website for discounts. Do you have the Costco app? If not, you may be missing out on some sweet offers.

Here are a few more great Costco deals you should never pass up.

Gift Cards: You’ll find gift cards for everything from movie tickets and travel to restaurants at up to 20% below face value.

Kirkland batteries: It’s always a good time to stock up. You’ll have no problem keeping your electronic devices powered up.

The pharmacy department: This one doesn’t even require membership to get your prescription filled at discounted prices. According to Consumer Reports, in some cases the discounts are lower than those provided by insurers, so be sure to ask what the price would be if you paid cash instead. Costco offers good deals on over-the-counter medication and vitamins as well … but just make sure you have room for those giant-sized bottles of acetaminophen or ibuprofen in your cabinets.

Gas: If you are lucky enough to have a Costco with a gas station, then “fill ‘er up.” Just be sure you are filling your tank during off times and days or you’ll spend forever in line.
