Credit Union of America awards $24,000 in scholarships.

Credit Union of America (CUA) is proud to announce twelve students have been selected as recipients of the 2025 John Michener Student Scholarship. Each will receive a $2,000 scholarship toward their college education.

Now in its 13th year, the scholarship program honors Credit Union of America’s founder and former educator, John Michener. It reflects his legacy of learning by supporting students across a wide range of studies as they work toward their educational and career goals.

To be eligible, applicants had to be age 24 or younger, a CUA member, and either a high school senior or currently enrolled undergraduate student. Each student selected stood out for their hard work, vision, and commitment to making a difference through their chosen field of study.

2025 Scholarship Recipients:

Lydia Andreo, Goddard, KS – Attending Newman University, studying Nursing with plans to become a Neonatal ICU Nurse.

Colton Baliel, Andover, KS – Wichita State University Biochemistry major, working toward a career as a Biochemist.

Jazlyn Barnes, Wichita, KS – Pursuing Social Work at Wichita State University to serve others as a Social Worker.

Roger Buller, Valley Center, KS – Studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kansas, aiming to become a U.S. Air Force Pilot or work in defense research.

Ethan Duerksen, Wichita, KS – Biology major at Kansas State University with plans for a future in the Medical Field.

Emma Grassmeyer, Valley Center, KS – Attending Friends University to study Graphic Design and Marketing, aspiring to be a Creative Director.

Joanna Mainzer, Wichita, KS – Biology student at Benedictine College with a goal of entering Genetic Counseling.

Maleah Mitchell, Wichita, KS – Langston University Business Administration major, planning a career in Human Resources.

Elyce Pfeifer, Maize, KS – Studying International Business at Wichita State University to become an Operations Manager.

Diego Sanchez, Great Bend, KS – Electrical Engineering major at Kansas State University, focused on becoming an Electronics Engineer.

Alanna Sanders, Wichita, KS – Engineering student at Wichita State University, planning a future in Cybersecurity.

Khaai Wilson, Wichita, KS – Pursuing Business Management at the University of Oklahoma with a focus on Non-Profit Business Leadership.

Since its beginning in 2011, the John Michener Scholarship Program has awarded more than $200,000 to 169 students. This scholarship program demonstrates CUA's ongoing commitment to supporting the educational aspirations of its members.
