American 1 Credit Union announces 2025 scholarships and grant recipients

Jackson, MI (June 4, 2025) |

American 1 Credit Union recently awarded 10 scholarships of $1,000 each and one grant of $2,500 to individuals from multiple southern Michigan counties pursuing higher education.

In 2025, American 1 introduced the Board of Directors Educational Grant. This grant is available to individuals at any life stage pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university or enrolling in a trade school program. One recipient will receive $2,500 annually, renewable for up to four years, for a total of $10,000.

“The American 1 Board of Directors is proud to offer this opportunity to a deserving individual,” said Linda Schaub, a member of the credit union’s board. “We’re confident this grant will help the recipient pursue their aspirations and make a meaningful difference in their community. It’s one of the ways we recognize and support those who are committed to excellence and positive change.”

The awards are part of American 1's annual Community Involvement Scholarship and Grant Program. The application focuses on why the student needs the funds and how receiving an education would support them in changing their life, while also positively impacting their community. American 1 supports scholarships and grants through their Skip-a-Pay program. This initiative allows credit union members to skip a month's loan payment for a $25 fee, with part of this fee contributing to the scholarship fund.

"We were thrilled by the many excellent submissions we received!" said Haley Hemmig, Community Partnership Manager at American 1. "We are incredibly grateful to support students in our communities through this program. I'm excited to see how the recipients will use their funds to further their education and positively impact their local areas."
