At its annual conven;on, CONNECT 2025, the MD|DC Credit Union Associa;on proudly marked its 20th anniversary with a special video reflec;ng on a journey that began with a pivotal decision in 2005. That year, the boards of the Maryland and DC Credit Union Leagues made history by vo;ng to merge, successfully establishing the na;on's first regional credit union associa;on with a shared vision of building a stronger, more unified organiza;on for long-term credit union success.
“For 20 years, the MD|DC Credit Union Associa;on has been a catalyst for credit union success, building connec;ons with members, policymakers, business partners and community organiza;ons,” said John Bratsakis, President/CEO of the MD|DC Credit Union Associa;on. “Our founda;on is, and always has been, built on strong rela;onships and collabora;ve opportuni;es that help our credit unions to grow and thrive.”
Celebra;ng two decades of impact, credit union leaders across the region shared compelling tes;monials about the Associa;on on the video:
“To have a partner that’s there no maZer what ;me of day, no maZer what’s happening, no maZer what the issue is, it really gives you a sense of confidence,” said Dan McCarthy, President/CEO of Del One FCU. John Hamilton, President/CEO of MECU Credit Union, echoed this sen;ment, sta;ng, “The Associa;on is a resource we cannot afford to be without.”
The cri;cal support provided by the Associa;on during challenging ;mes was also highlighted. Dave Sweiderk, President/CEO of SECU of Maryland, recalled, "The Associa;on truly had our back throughout the pandemic. From a communica;ons standpoint, they were the backbone, ensuring we pulled together and made a difference across the state.”
The Associa;on's commitment to long-term sustainability and leadership development was also recognized. Miguel Boluda, President/CEO of PAHO/WHO Federal Credit Union, emphasized, “How do credit unions remain viable and consistent over the next 75 to 100 years? That’s really going to be making sure that we have a strong bench of future leaders. The Associa;on is very focused on that.”
The Associa;on advocates for credit unions in Maryland, Delaware, and the Washington Metro Area.
